Meter Solutions Pros LLC, Paul Dickson, Brigham Young University,

1 Meter Solutions is an established name in the installation of AMI systems, including gas, water and electric meters and transponders across the western United States.  Ongoing relationships with municipalities and utilities provide a solid base of future revenues.  They do the vast majority of meter installations for Questar Gas Company in Utah. Over the next three years, Questar will be installing new transponders on all of its meters along the Wasatch Front – a total of about 230,000 installations.

$7 Cuts, Craig Guincho, Brigham Young University

2 $7 cuts is a chain of barber shops with 3 locations throughout Utah County. They offer a great service to the community in this economy by offering hair cuts at half the price of larger national chains. They also pay their stylists better than any other chain in the nation. $7 cuts has been very well received by the community and has plans to grow to 10 locations through expansion throughout the state of Utah.

Worldwide Book Drive, John Keller, Brigham Young University,

3 Worldwide Book Drive currently receives/collects approximately 20,000 pounds of books per/week and employees 10 full-time equivalent employees. To date, WBD has donated more than 500,000 books and recycled more than 1.2 million pounds. The books are recycled in partnership with Life Skills Center, a sheltered workshop for disabled adults, and provide meaningful work and discretionary income to more than 85 individuals in Utah and Salt Lake counties.

Sharp Media, Cahlan Sharp, Brigham Young University,

4 Cahlan is self-taught in web technologies and languages such as Flash (ActionSript 2.0 & 3.0), Flex, Adobe AIR, PHP, and has been developing web technology applications for over five years. Sharp Media is a learning services and educational technology company based in Pleasant Grove, Utah. With expertise in web development and instructional design, Sharp Media prides itself as providing cutting-edge solutions to learning and training challenges.

iLocalized LLC / iLifeNetworks, Jared Smith, Utah Valley University,

5 Jared Smith founded the depot network with the goal to provide small businesses (in U.S. and other countries) with the tools, helps, and systems to connect to their consumers in a social network environment.    Within the 1st year, iLocalized LLC had successfully bootstrapped their proto-type website and reached the top 100,000 websites in the world ( had over 15,000 businesses register on their site, and had a positive cash flow within the first 6 months.

Launch Sales and Marketing LLC, Brandt Page, Brigham Young University

6 Brandt Page, Founder/CEO, graduated in Communications from BYU and during his sophomore year, started Seatability LLC with his partners and took 4th and 3rd place in the Entrepreneur of the year awards at BYU in consecutive years and also was awarded in the top 10 for the Utah Entrepreneurial Challenge. Inspiration to start Launch came from mentors Greg Warnock and Alan Hall through the Junto Partners program.

Premium Landscape LLC, Weston Thayne, Weber State University

7 Weston Thayne is studying for a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and a minor in Psychology. His business consists of both landscape maintenance and installation, including chain link and vinyl fence installation. The business focuses primarily on servicing commercial properties, having particular high credibility from NSC Properties of Kaysville, Ut.

Chocolot Artisan Confections, Ryan Kendrick, Westminster College,

8 Ryan Kendrick has a Bachelors in Business Management from BYU, and is currently an MBA student at Westminster College. Chocolot sells mainly wholesale to gift basket companies as well as local bakeries and flower shops, but is currently pursuing retail space in Salt Lake City and through the website,

The Collegiate Advertising Company, Andrew Stewart, Brigham Young University

9 The Collegiate Advertising Co. provides advertising space inside student dorm rooms and apartments.  The company was founded at both Brigham Young University and Texas Tech University.  The Collegiate Advertising Company started for $5 and within 90 days had recorded $32,000 in revenue.

Four Pillar Fitness, Matt Carlson, Westminster College,

10 Matt Carlson is the current CFO of Four Pillar Fitness and is currently pursuing an MBA at Westminster College. Four Pillar Fitness is a comprehensive fitness training facility that offer detailed training programs tailored to each individual according to their goals.  Each person receives a thorough analysis of their current fitness level (body fat %, measurements, etc.) and then is given customized workouts/training each time they come to work out.

Rising Rain Studios LLC, Benjamin Bartholomew, University of Utah

11 Since starting the company in November 2007, the company has managed to experience over a 400-1,000% annual revenue growth rate despite a slow economy and competitive industry.    Ben graduated magna cum laude from Utah Valley State College (now Utah Valley University) in April 2005 with an Associate’s degree in Integrated Studies. Ben is also a consultant for Strategic Applications International, a member of Grouplicty, LLC, and a Servant Fellow of The Servant Forge.

H&H Medical Corporation, William Hoster, Westminster College

12 William Hoster is founder and president of H&H Medical Corp, a medical supply company focused on diagnostic products.  The company was founded to distribute a product designed to monitoring heart arrhythmias, anytime and anywhere.  H&H helped design the user application and has secured the exclusive distribution for North America.  The product is FDA approved and allows a person to check their EKG through their thumbs in 30 seconds.

K-9 Designs Mobile Dog Grooming, Mindy Petramalo, Brigham Young University                                          

13 K-9 Designs is a full-service, mobile dog grooming shop. They travel to the customer’s location in a self-contained, fully equipped grooming van. Mindy Petramalo, owner, started grooming in 1998. She moved to BYU in 2004 and began this mobile service in 2005. Since then, it has grown to a 600+ clientele business with three groomers (including herself).

Seahorse Enterprises, Cameron Muir, Brigham Young University

14 Seahorse Enterprises began in 2006 as a chocolate fountain rental company.  Later that year they created a website and online store.  After having success through the online store they began to create additional online stores in different markets and have since expanded their focus to online marketing and online retail sales.

MountainWest Memories, LLC, Curtis Funk, Weber State University,

15 Curtis is a 24 year old student entrepreneur.  He was chosen as one of the 5 Junto Partners in 2008 for his entrepreneurial skills and business. was created to fix a problem in the funeral industry.  They contract with Funeral Homes/Mortuaries to record and broadcast the funeral services on the internet.

Let There Be Light, Jeremiah Olsen, Brigham Young University

16 Jeremiah Olsen, Founder/Owner, is an ISYS major at BYU. His company, Let There Be Light, installs Christmas and holiday decorations on residential and commercial locations. They sell holiday lights by acting as broker between holiday lighting wholesaler and customers. They also sell services to home and commercial locations for window cleaning.

Desert Sno Shave Ice, Jill Alsbury, Brigham Young University

17 Jill and her husband opened up a Hawaiian Shave Ice business in April for 2008 in Moab, UT. Jill is studying Exercise Science at Brigham Young University, and has worked for 7 years at a Hawaiian Shave Ice in Montana for a summer job. Currently Jill is responsible for human resources matters, orders, and the day to day matters with Hawaiian Shave Ice.

Logan Windows LLC, Brandon Hunt, Utah State University,

18 Logan Windows is the leader in Cache Valley and the surrounding areas, even as far south as Brigham City and the Ogden Valley. Over the years we have built a reputation based on their workmanship, professionalism and exceptional customer service that have gained them many new customers and retained over 75% of our customers from day one.

Epic Manufacturing, Brett Coleman, Brigham Young University

19 Brett started this company almost 2 years ago. After several meetings with an interested investor, he purchased machinery and space. Now he manufactures plastic objects by the rotomolding process. Epic has molds for boat, hovercraft, pipe, chair, lecterns etc.

Simple Systems, Inc., Dan Lauritzen, University of Utah,

20 Dan started Simple Systems in 2007, after many years of part-time IT support.  Since then he has helped many people all over the Salt Lake Valley, even in “remote” areas like Provo and Ogden. Simple Systems is an IT support company serving small businesses, homes and home offices.  They can handle basic troubleshooting to full office upgrades and reconfigurations.

No Risk Investor LC, Edward Stewart, Utah Valley University,

21 Our goal was to offer a premium, web-based investment education tool and resource that offered exactly what the consumer expects when they sign up. No Risk Investor was created to fill the industry’s quality gap. 22 PictureThis! Event Services was formed in early 2008 by Darrell Swain and Alma Madsen with a simple mission: help others preserve and enhance their once-in-a-lifetime events and celebrations. We do this with our signature product, a touch screen Event Kiosk, that allows for the onsite sharing and retrieval of digital media.

DPC Sealing Specialists, Dustin Hansen, Utah Valley University

23 Dustin is a senior studying Business Management with an emphasis in Entrepreneurship at UVU. DPC Sealing Specialists started spring 2006 when Parker Davidson and Dustin Hansen with no previous experience sealing concrete and with an initial investment of $50.00 for flyers, got there first two customers, bought their equipment,  and were in the black.  DPC Sealing Specialists has continued to grow and has added other services which include epoxy garage floors, acid staining as well as keeping with concrete sealing.

One Man’s Trash, James Marshall, Brigham Young University

24 One Man’s Trash started out providing door side trash pickup for college students; however, they soon realized that an even greater demand existed for recycling pickup and have now shifted their focus to recycling.
